Facilitating Effective Cognitive Walkthroughs
In our post-outage interviews, we ask three structured questions:
- What did you perceive? What dashboard charts, alert payloads, or log lines were visible on your screen during initial triage?
- What did you expect to happen? What was your internal mental model of how the system would react to your mitigation?
- What feedback did the system provide? Did the interface confirm state changes immediately, or was there ambiguous lag?
